GREGORY, WILBUR LYNN - age 76 of Walland, passed away Wednesday afternoon, June 21, 2000 at the home of his daughter in Clinton. He was a descendant of the Cades Cove Gregory family, veteran of World War II and was in the most decorated aviation combat unit in the Marine Corps. His group received a presidential citation as a unit with the first Marine division for meritorious action during the engagements to secure Henderson Field, Guadal Canel. Retired from ALCOA and was a 30 year member & was known as "Sweatless". He was of the Baptist faith & attended Hillcrest Baptist Church. He dearly loved his church family. Preceded in death by parents, Perley & Dora Gregory; & several brothers; & sisters. Survivors: son & daughter in law, Wilbur Lynn Jr. "Sonny" & Kim Gregory of Greenback; daughters, Linda Smith of Louisville & Karen Everett of Walland; daughter & son in law, Sandra & Stephen Loveday of Clinton; granddaughters, Kendra Moore, Lynn Price, Kristen Everett, & Melissa Everett; brothers, Clyde Gregory of Alcoa & Glenn Gregory of Walland; sister, Clara Heaton of Maryville; several nieces; & nephews. Funeral service 8:00 p.m. Friday, June 23, 2000 at Miller Funeral Home chapel, Rev. Carl White officiating. Family & friends will meet at 11:00 a.m. Saturday at Hillcrest Baptist Church Cemetery for the interment service. Family will receive friends 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Friday at Miller Funeral Home, Maryville.
