He was a World War II Army veteran, and a lifetime member of Valley Grove Baptist Church. James was preceded in death by his wife Hu Ella Roberts, his parents Haney and Nettie Roberts, his brothers George Roberts and Ed Roberts, and his sister Catherine Clemons. Survivors: Daughter: Becky Maples and husband Ron of Estero, Fl. Son: Dale Roberts, Jr and wife Barbara of Seymour, Tn. Several nieces and nephews Special friends: Mayford and Frances Galyon, Bobby and Johnnie Webb Special Thanks to all the staff at Ben Atchley State Veterans Home for the love and amazing care he received. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Ben Atchley State Veterans Home, 9910 Coward Mill Road, Knoxville, Tn. 37931 Funeral service 7 PM Wednesday Atchley's Seymour Chapel with Rev. Carroll Golden officiating. Interment 11 AM Thursday in Chilhowee Cemetery with military honors provided by American Legion Post 104.
