Newport resident John Wayne Harris, 39, died Friday, August 14, at the Baptist Hospital of Cocke County. He was born on August 12, 1959, in Newport. He was the son of Clura Harris and the late Elmer Harris of Newport. He was a member of the Centerview Freewill Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his father, Elmer Estee Harris. He is survived by his mother, Clura Styles Harris of Newport; one brother and sister-in-law, Robert and JoAnn Harris of Newport; one sister and brother-in-law, Betsy and Harry Shultz of Tazewell; grandmother, Rittie Costner of Newport; and nieces and nephews, Shernena and Dwayne Huskey of Newport, Lorelei and Vince Hoskins, Marissa Shultz, Olivia Hoskins, and Alaina Hoskins, all of Tazewell, and Mariah Huskey of Newport. The family received friends Saturday, August 15, from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Funeral service was conducted at Brown Funeral Home Chapel at 8 p.m. Saturday. The graveside service was conducted at 10 a.m. Sunday, August 16, at the Catons Grove Church Cemetery. Rev. Carl Bryan officiated. Brown Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
