He was a member of Lanier Open Bible Baptist Church, a carpenter by trade, and a member of Carpenter Local 50. He was an avid fisherman, hunter, and a loving husband and father. He is preceded in death by wife, Martha Kirkland of 24 years; mother, Minnie Jane Kirkland; father, James Walter Kirkland; brothers, James Ralph Kirkland and William Howard Kirkland and sister, Wanda Ailen Tipton. Survivors include his wife of 27 years, Barbara R. Kirkland; children, Ronald Kirkland, Kathy Malabey, David Kirkland, Tammy Windham, Faye McMahan, Frank B. Herrell, and Douglas Herrell; 12 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; brothers, John Kirkland and Clyde Kirkland; and sisters, Jean Ogle, Nan Watkins, Louise Click, and Mary Whaley. Funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, July 8, 2006 at Lanier Open Bible Baptist Church, Rev. Greg Brackin officiating. Interment will follow at Dotson Memorial Church Cemetery. The body will lie in state at the church from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. Saturday morning. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Friday at Miller Funeral Home, Maryville.
