HARDIN, TROY EVERETT - age 82 of Strawberry Plains, TN entered eternal rest at 11:45 p.m. on Sunday, September 25, 2005. A loving and devoted father, grandfather, and brother, he left his earthly home surrounded by his children and entered Heavens Mighty Portals, met by those precious loved ones who had preceded him in death, one being his loving soul mate and dear devoted wife of 57 years, Betty Jane (Griffin) Hardin. Also preceding him in death were: his parents, Lloyd Elmore Hardin and Annabelle Willard Hardin; sisters, Juanita Hardin, Carrie Lou Huffaker, Gertrude Snyder; brothers, Harold, Buford and J. C. Hardin. Mr. Hardin was a member of Strawberry Plains First Baptist Church and a retired employee of Standard Knitting Mills. He was a veteran of World War II and was proud to have served with the U.S. Army's 9th Division 39th Infantry Regiment during campaigns in North Africa, Sicily and participated in the Normandy Invasion on June 6, 1944. He received two Bronze Battle Stars and the Purple Heart. He is survived by: his son, Robert F. Hardin, of the home; son and daughter-in-law, Gary and Diane Hardin of Morristown; daughter and son-in-law, Nancy and Jimmy Haggard of Morristown; grandchildren, Betsy Stibler and husband Joe of Morristown, Gary Hardin II and wife Kelli of Columbia, South Carolina, and Mandy Haggard of Morristown; great grandchildren, Kirk Wolff of Morristown and Joel, Jacob and Gabrielle Hardin of Morristown; sister, Trula Tharpe of Strawberry Plains; sister-in-law, Lola Hardin of Dandridge and Miriah Hardin of Mascot; brother-in- law, Buford Snyder of Strawberry Plains; several nieces, nephews and special friends. The funeral service will be held at 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, September 27, 2005 at Farrar Jefferson City Chapel with Reverend Mike Boatfield and Reverend Ronnie White officiating. Family and friends will meet at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday, September 28, 2005 at the funeral home to proceed to Trentville Cemetery for a 1:30 p.m. graveside interment service. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Tuesday prior to the service at the funeral home. Honorary pallbearers will be: Jimmy Haggard, Gary Hardin II, Joel and Jacob Hardin, Kirk Wolff, CDR Joseph Stibler (USNR), Rick Hardin, Donnie Tharpe, Jim Ogle, Travis Brady, and Tim Huffaker. The family wishes to express a heartfelt thank you to Mr. Hardin's extended family and all his neighbors and friends for all their love, prayers and support during his illness, especially his doctors, nurses and sitters.
