Rachel Evelyn Pickens Pickle of Seymour, went home to her Heavenly Father on Tuesday, May 14, 2013, at Fort Sanders Regional Medical Center. Mrs. Pickle was born in 1919 in Sevier County, and spent her childhood years in Friendsville, TN and moved to Knoxville in the mid 1940's to raise her family. She was a fifty year member of Emerald Avenue United Methodist Church, and currently of First Baptist Church Seymour. She was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Chilhowee Chapter 450.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Wesley A. Pickle; son, Robert W. Pickle; parents, Samuel Houston and Christine Cusick Pickens; sisters, Martha Mize, Johnnie Johnson, Beaulah Barbee, and infant Mary Pickens; brothers, James and Sam Pickens; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Will and Ada Pickle; and sister-in-law, Leona Green Hardin.
She is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Frances and Terry Harper of Seymour, TN, and Janie and Jim Porter of Knoxville, TN; son, William Pickle of Knoxville, TN; sister, Cusick Clow of Clearwater, FL and Seymour, TN; brother-in-law, Ben Barbee of Knoxville, TN; 11 grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren; and several great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and close friends.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Emerald Avenue Methodist Church Food Pantry or UMW, or Emerald Youth Foundation, 1620 N. Central Avenue, Knoxville, TN 37917.
Funeral service 6 PM Sunday in Atchley's Seymour Chapel with Rev. Jack Thacker officiating. Graveside service 2 PM Monday in Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church Cemetery, Sevierville, TN.
