She was a long-time member of First Baptist Church of Pigeon Forge, and was part-owner of the Smoky Shadows Motel and Convention Center. Mrs. Cowart's father was the well-known Charles W. She found pleasure in serving her community and church in many ways, including as a Sunday School teacher and Senior Fellowship Director, board member of the Southern Baptist Convention, member of the Pigeon Forge Garden Club, and a Cub Scout Den Mother. She worked tirelessly as an advocate for Sevier County Senior Adults. As a result of her community service, she received the J. Pritchard Barnes Public Service Award, given by the Pigeon Forge Rotary Club.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to the staff of Mountain Brook Village, who cared for her well for many years.
