(June 28, 1922 - February 28, 2007) U.S. Veteran Ruel Gray age 84, of Newport passed away Wednesday, February 28, 2007 at Fort Sanders Regional Hospital. He was a member of First Christian Church of Newport, Ruel served in the United States Army during World War II and retired from Stokely Brothers/Quaker after 45 years of service. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Ruelena Proffitt, parents; George and Flora Gray, brothers; Arlie, Hubert and Monroe Gray, sisters; Irene Gray, Minnie Allen and Martha Barnes. He is survived by his wife; Wymalene Johnson Gray, of Newport daughter and son in law; Melanie and Dennis Overton, of Knoxville son in law; Carroll Proffitt, of Newport grandchildren; Aaron Proffitt, of Newport, Jonathan and Ashley Overton of Knoxville , sister Dorothy Williams of Newport, brother George Gray and wife Stella of N.C., several nieces and nephews and special friend Ms Henri Palen. Funeral service will be 8:00 pm Friday, March 2, 2007 at the Manes Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Bert Scott officiating. Interment will be 10:00 am Saturday, March 3, 2007 in Resthaven Memorial Gardens with L/Cpl Charles C. Roberts D.A.V. chapter 102 D.A.V conducting Military Rites.
