Wendell is a retired employee of Magnavox after 43 years. He sang with several gospel quartets in our community. Wendell was of the Baptist faith. He was a loving husband for 51 years, a proud father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. Wendell was preceded in death by his mother and father, Arlie and Dee Matthews; brother, Jack Matthews; and sister, Brenda Matthews. He is survived by his wife, Lois Matthews; daughter, Teresa Houk and husband, Kevin Houk; grandchildren, Dustin Perryman and wife, Tiffany Perryman, Adam Houk, Andrew Houk, Kaylyn Perryman, Peyton Shoopman, Ashlynn Shoopman, Abigail Perryman; brothers, Carroll Matthews and wife, Mary Matthews, Blaine Matthews, Malcom Matthews and wife, Carolyn Matthews; special friends, Patsy Atchley and Troy Manning. The family will receive friends from 5-7PM Thursday with funeral service to follow at 7PM in the chapel of Atchley Funeral Home. Rev. Ronnie Reagan and Rev. Bill Stephens officiating.
