Ersa Wilson Patterson, 79, of Maryville, died Saturday, February 6, at Blount Memorial Hospital.
She was a member of New Providence Presbyterian Church of Maryville, and a member of several church and local organizations.
After teaching for several years, she was a salesperson and manager for World Book Encyclopedia for almost 30 years.
She also was a Welcome Wagon Lady for the last several years.
She graduated from the University of Tennessee at the age of 70 and was the oldest graduate in her class.
She was preceded in death by brother, James Edward Wilson; and was the daughter of Ronald Earl and Virgie Murr Wilson.
Survivors include; son, Patrick Hyder Patterson of San Diego, California; daughters and sons-in-law, Rev. Carole and Michael Knight of Murfreesboro and Jane and Bob Hobbs of Newton, Massachusetts; twin grandsons, Thaddeus and John Knight; granddaughters, Kate and Jenna Hobbs; sister, Lucile Cureton of Newport; brothers, Samuel Mack Wilson of Abington, Pennsylvania, and Gene Frederick of Blacksburg, Virginia; and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at 7 p.m. Friday, February 12, at New Providence Presbyterian Church with Rev. David Campbell and Rev. Bruce Wilson officiating, with a reception to follow in Westminster Hall.
The family will receive friends from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Friday at the church. The family will have a private interment.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial donations be made to Maryville College, Carson-Newman College or The University of Tennessee or to Christiana Presbyterian Church Building Fund, in care of Rev. Carol Knight, 1806 Azure Way, Murfreesboro, TN 37128.
McCammon-Ammons Funeral Home, Maryville, is in charge.
