Smoky Mountain Ancestral Quest Pending Changes

Most researchers list Mary Clabaugh, b 1847 and married to Thomas Kear as being the daughter of William and Elizabeth (Handley) Clabaugh, Jr. According to the best information I can find [specifically the Sevier County censuses for 1850, 1860 and 1870], Mary Ann Clabaugh was the daughter of James R. and Sarah Dickson Clabaugh. She was born on 06 August 1840 and died on 27 February 1899. Mary Ann Clabaugh married Thomas Kear on 11 August 1863. Thomas was born in July 1844. I have not been able to determine the date of his death.

William and Elizabeth Handley Clabaugh, Jr. did have a daughter named Mary Jane Clabaugh. She was born 26 August 1846 and married John H. Murphy [b. 22 April 1821; d. 04 April 1907] who was evidently a widower when he married Mary Jane Clabaugh on 19 February 1880. John H. and Mary Jane Clabaugh Murphy had three children. They were:

Alice R. Murphy b. July 1881 d. 1958
 md Isaac N. Ogle

Julia H. Murphy b. About 1883

Jacob M. Murphy b. About 1889
Mary Jane Clabaugh Murphy was living with her daughter Alice R. Murphy Ogle in Blount County, Tennessee at the time of her death on 03 January 1917. The death certificate shows the following information:

	Born - 26 August 1836
	Died - 03 January 1917
	Widowed
	Father - William Claybo
	Mother - Elizabeth Hanley
Cause of death - Pulmonary T..bosis
The certificate was attested to her daughter, Alice R. Murphy Ogle. Mary Jane Clabaugh was buried in Prospect Cemetery in Blount County, Tennessee.

The birth date of Mary Jane Clabaugh Murphy listed on the death certificate is evidently wrong. The 1850 census lists her as being 3 years old which would place her birth date in 1846 or 1847 time frame.
