Ms. Beulah Mae Johnson McCarter, age 86, of Newport, passed away Monday, February 6, 2012, at the home of her daughter and son-in-law Pat and Ronnie Knight, with whom she resided. Early in her life, she worked as a beautician and many may remember her as a former owner and operator of Beulah and Polly's beauty shop. She was preceded in death by her father, Arthur Johnson, mother Cora Styles Costner, grandson Pierce McCarter Jr., and sister Mildred Beason. She is survived by sons, Larry McCarter and Pierce McCarter; daughter Cecilia (Tillie) McCarter, and daughters and sons-in law Pat and Ronnie Knight and Gail and Dennis Rimmer all of Newport; ten grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren; and brother and sister-in-law Marty and Juanita Costner of White Pine. Additional survivors include several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends, including a special companion of many years Claude Coggins and his daughter Tammy Goode, her husband Darrell, and their daughter Laura, all of Newport. The family would like to extend their appreciation to Sylvia Ford and Barbara Owenby with Amedisys Home Health Care. Funeral services will be held at 8:00 p.m. Tuesday evening, February 7, 2012, at the Costner-Maloy Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Manson Lee and Ronnie Knight officiating. Family and friends will meet at 9:45 a.m. Wednesday at Resthaven Memorial Gardens for the 10:00 a.m. entombment. The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Tuesday at Costner-Maloy Funeral Home prior to the services.
