William Hal Ailey

William Hal Ailey, age 87 of Seymour passed away Wednesday, March 10, 2010. He was the second son of Harrison and Ethyl Ailey. He was born in Jefferson County but moved to Sevier County after his family was displaced by the building of Douglas Lake. Mr. Ailey graduated from Harrison Chilhowee Baptist Academy in 1941. He was a decorated veteran of WWII having been awarded the Bronze Star. He was a 32nd degree Mason and a member of Sevier Masonic Lodge # 334. After he retired from Alcoa he spent the rest of his life doing what he truly loved, farming the land he had owned for many years. He was married and raised a family with his late wife of 63 years, Jean Frazier Ailey, who passed away October 27, 2009.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Ailey is preceded in death by brothers, Harrison Ailey, Jr. and wife Ruth, and Tommy Ailey, sisters Agnes Wade and husband Bill and Leota Murphy and husband Howard, brothers-in-law Bill Pierce and Howard Frazier, sisters-in-law Sue Gibson and Rhea Robello. Hal was a long time member of Boyd’s Creek Baptist Church where he served as a deacon. His life was devoted to being a good husband, father and farmer.
Mr. Ailey is survived by sons and daughters-in-law Ric and Beverly Norton Ailey and Rob and Janice Kerr Ailey; grandsons Brian Fain and wife Anna and Chad Fain; great-grandchildren Jack, Luke and Isabel Fain and Ricky Lee Norton who fondly called him Papa Hal; brother and sisters Norman Ailey and wife JoAnn, Ann Pierce, Lucille Brown; several nieces and nephews; sisters and brothers -in-law Betty Ailey, Kenneth Gibson, Wilda Frazier ; special friends Dayton Douglas, Claude Haggard and Gary Latham.
In his last days, he was surrounded by his family, special friends and devoted caregivers.
The family will receive friends from 5 PM until 7 PM on Friday, March 12 with a brief funeral service at 7 o’clock in Atchley’s Seymour Chapel.
