SEYMOUR - As smoke continued to billow from a Dupont Community home Wednesday, brothers Curtis and Wayne Ogle stood in a bitter cold wind staring at it with a look of quiet shock on their faces.
Just minutes before, their sister, Nancy Cline, was transported to the hospital with burn injuries, and their mother, Patricia Hodge, was transported with a shoulder injury as a result of the blaze, Curtis Ogle said.
The structure at 1439 South Delozier Road still stood Wednesday, but the inside was charred from a fire that dispatchers said had apparently started in a bedroom.
Curtis Ogle, who was in Gatlinburg when he heard about the fire, said he was not sure if anything inside could be saved but that he believes his mother and sister will be okay.
Cline was listed in stable condition Wednesday afternoon at The University of Tennessee Medical Center.
As his mother, sister and stepfather, Bill Hodge, escaped the house, his brother, Wayne, went back inside to try to save an oxygen tank that the Hodges used to breathe, Curtis Ogle said.
While Wayne was unsuccessful, he got out of the house with only a slight burn on his wrist.
After the fire was contained, firefighters from Seymour Volunteer Fire Department and Waldens Creek Volunteer Fire Department continued to work at the scene.
Sevier County Ambulance Service also responded to the scene to transport the patients.
