GASTONIA - The Rev. Jimmy Ray Painter, 58, went home to be with his Lord on Dec. 7, 2010, at his home surrounded by his loving family.
He was born March 21, 1952, in Gaston County.
A funeral service will be held 1 p.m. Friday at Freewill Church of Jesus Christ with the Rev. Dennis Hicks, Brother Wayne Philbeck and Brother David Chapman officiating.
Visitation will begin 6 p.m. Thursday at the church.
Interment will be at Evergreen Cemetery, Belmont.
The Rev. Painter was the pastor of The Freewill Church of Jesus Christ in Gastonia. He had a singing group called "June and the Gospel Boys" who traveled for several years. Jimmy was an evangelist and tent preacher across the country for many years. He was a local businessman for 34 years at Boulevard Discount Furniture in Cramerton. Jimmy was a loving husband, father, grandfather, son and brother and was a friend to all he met.
Survivors include his wife of 35 years, Rhonda D. Beasley Painter; sons, Jimmy Ray Painter of Lincolnton, Jerry Edward Painter of Belmont; daughter, Jewel Painter Bruce and husband Jason of Lowell; grandchildren: Christin Painter and Hannah Bruce; parents: Carl and Bertie Ledford Painter of Gasto-nia; brother: Johnny Painter and wife Joyce of Dallas; sisters: Judy Green and husband Joe of Gastonia, Janice McGill and husband Rick of Gastonia, June Cash and husband Jimmy of Lowell; many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Buster Painter; sister, Jean Marie Painter James.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The Freewill Church of Jesus Christ, 145 Hamrick Road, Gastonia, NC 28056.
