Jean Newman Cole 82, departed this life on Sunday, December 23, 2012. Jean was the youngest of seven children born to Samuel Wesley, and Adra Proffitt Newman, in the Oldhams Creek area of Sevier County. She came to Gatlinburg to work at the M&O Tearoom, where she would meet and marry her husband, and raise her three children. Jean worked with the public for many years, operating her own businesses, but truly found her home as the secretary at Jim McCarter's Plumbing Company, alongside her dearest friends, Betty and Jim McCarter. She later retired, but quickly found retirement too quiet, and became involved with the artists gallery of her niece, Terri Waters. She enjoyed visits from friends, cooking huge meals, and helping anyone in need.
