BARBER, DEAN L. - age 87 of Knoxville, passed away Friday, November 26, 2010. Mr. Barber was active in the Alumni Associations of Knoxville High School and UT, where he graduated with a business degree. He was retired Vice President of Screen Art Inc. and Distribution Equipment Corp. Decorated WWII Veteran of the U.S. Army Air Corps, and a former member of Fourth Presbyterian Church before joining Second Presbyterian where he served as an Elder, Stephen Minister, member of the Chancel and Hand Bell Choirs, Fish Pantry and driver and organizer for Travel Ventures. He loved hiking, tennis and bridge. He was preceded in death by wife of 62 years, Betty Highbaugh Barber who passed away on November 18, 2010; infant son Thomas Dean Barber; parents D. West and Carol Parmelee Barber. He is survived by three children, Charles Douglas Barber, Janet Lynn Bailey, Ruth Ann Barber (Keith Watson) of Pittman Center; Grandchildren: Kristin Elise Barber (Benjamin Weiner), Jessie Lynn Allen (Richard) and Hilary Bailey; step-grandchildren, Erik Watson (Heather), Nicholas Watson (Kristin), Dawn Watson and two great grandchildren Greyson and Cole Watson; brother, David Barber of Sevierville. A memorial service will be held at 4:00 P.M. Sunday at Second Presbyterian Church with Reverend Bryan Wilson and Reverend Dr. William R. Barron officiating with visitation to follow at the church. Family and Friends will meet at the West Adair entrance to Lynnhurst Cemetery 10:45 A.M. Monday for interment at 11:00 A.M. In lieu of flowers the family request memorial gifts be made to Second Presbyterian Church Handbell Choir, 2829 Kingston Pike Knoxville, TN 37919 or to the Louise Barber Endowment, Friends of the Smokies Tremont Institute, 9275 Tremont Rd., Townsend, TN 37882.
