Jack Edward Brockwell, age 66, of Newport passed away Thursday, March 11, 2004.
Jack worked for his dad at the Coffee Pot from the age of 12 until he attended East Tennessee State College; worked for awhile at the Old Super $ Market, then went in with his brother on the lunch wagon business serving the industry in and around Newport. Then they decided to start Brock's Open Air Market on East Broadway that they ran for a number of years. Then an older brother bought it with Jack operating it and the market on Cosby Highway until he moved to Johnson City.
Jack was a charter member of the Sertoma Club. He was an avid Vol fan though his health prevented him from seeing the games. He always had either the TV or radio on. When he wasn't listening to sports, he was watching videos of Southern Gospel music or listening to tapes.
He was preceded in death by his wives, Kay and Sandy Brockwell; parents, Carl and Lucy Brockwell; brothers, W.E. "Dub" Brockwell and Jim Brockwell.
He is survived by his wife, Carol Brockwell of Newport; sons and daughters-in-law, Don and Sharon Brockwell of Kingsport, Ron and Cynthia Brockwell of San Antonio, TX, and Keith and Susie Brockwell of Victoria, TX; step-daughters and step-sons-in-law, Cathy and Thomas Keller of Morristown, Caron and Earl Truss of Minnetonka, MN, and Cindy White of Morristown; sisters, Darlene Green, Joyce Woods, and Imogene Hill all of Newport, and Emma Dean Green of Clarksville, TN; and nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
A private funeral (family only) will be at the Manes Funeral Home Chapel with Craig Ward officiating. A private burial will follow in Union Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Lincoln Avenue Baptist Church Handy Man Ministries.
Manes Funeral Home is in charge.
