Loyd H. Starnes Sr., born June 8, 1912, entered Heaven on September 12, 2002. He passed away peacefully at his home, surrounded with the love of his family and the excellent care of Smoky Mountain Home Health and Hospice.
He retired from A.C. Lawrence Leather Company and continued working t French’s IGA and also at Food City for many years, enjoying the company of everyone he encountered.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Bea Breeden Starnes; daughter, Betty Jane Starnes; son, Loyd Starnes Jr.; mother and father, Abraham C. and Bertha Starnes; sister, Ruth Fine; and brothers, James, Johnny, Donald, George, Chester, and Bill Starnes.
Survivors include his daughter, Evelyn Taylor, of Newport; daughter and son-in-law, Peggy and Johnny Parks, of Parrottsville; son and daughter-in-law, Charles Lester and Judy Starnes, of Newport; sister, Grace Woodward, of Dublin, Georgia; daughter-in-law, Wanda Starnes, of Newport; eight grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held 8 p.m. Friday, September 13, 2002 at Manes Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Frank Floyd officiating. Graveside service will be 10 a.m. Saturday, September 14, 2002 in Union Cemetery. Pallbearers will be James “Carroll” Starnes, Johnny Starnes, L.D. Ottinger, Rick Starnes, Chad Starnes, Jeff Starnes, Zack Taylor, Chuck Starnes, Donnie Starnes, Bobby Starnes, and Joe Starnes.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. prior to the funeral service at Manes Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Smoky Mountain Home Health and Hospice, 222 Heritage Blvd., Newport, TN 37821.
