BRYSON CITY - Roy "Phillip" Cope, 55, succumbed to cancer at his home on Toot Hollow Road, Friday, Nov. 30, 2001. A native of Swain County, he was the son of the late Vernon Lee and Nora Patterson Cope. He was also preceded in death by three brothers, Jim, John and Harold Cope. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War during which he was wounded in action and received the Purple Heart. He later was self-employed as a plumber and electrician. He is survived by his wife, Rhonda Ownby Cope sons, Kevin Cope and his wife, Misty, and granddaughter, Miranda, of Sylva, Andy Cope and his fianc?, Donna Parsons, of Atlanta grandson, Tyler Taylor Cope of Cherokee a sister, Martha Nell Moore of Stone Mountain, Ga. brothers, Charles Lee Cope of Cullowhee and Wayne Cope of Bryson City a mother-in- law, Helen Ownby of the home several nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends. The funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday in the Bryson City First Baptist Church of which he was a member. The Rev. John Tagliarini will officiate with burial in Swain Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday at Crisp Funeral Home where the body will remain until placed in the church 30 minutes prior to services. Pallbearers will be Bob Marr, Bob Thomas, George Oliver, Russell Winchester, Jack Parton, Talmadge Jones and Vernon "Rock" Ledford.
