Lawson, Robert (Bobby) Ross, age 71, passed away on Tuesday, September 27, 2005 after a courageous battle with cancer. He was preceded in death by his parents, J. Ross Lawson and Irene Keeler Lawson. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Edna Faye Lawson of Salem, Virginia; son, Robert (Robby) Brian Lawson and fiancée, Kathy Brannan of Elliston, Virginia; sister, Linda Gail Lane and husband, Arnold of Farragut; niece, Andrea Montgomery and husband, Craig of Farragut. Bob also leaves behind a life long and devoted friend, Homer Shumer and wife, Betty of Maryville and a host of other relatives and good friends. He retired from the U.S. Navy (Seebees “CAN DO!!”) serving in the Korean and Vietnamese Conflicts. He retired from the U.S. Postal Service as a rural letter carrier, Salem Office. His hobbies were hunting and fishing (especially trout fishing in the Smokies), working with ornamental iron, ACC Basketball, Altanta Braves Baseball and NASCAR. He was a member of Oak Street Baptist Church in Maryville. The family wishes to thank the staff of Lewis Gale Medical Center, especially Dr. Vashist Nobbee and Adventa Hospice with special thanks to his nurse, Bruce Nicely and nursing assistant, Ginny Crockett. The family would like to thank all their friends and neighbors for their love and support during bob’s illness. Graveside service with Military Honors provided by The Volunteer State Veterans Honor Guard will be held at Sherwood Memorial Gardens at 10:00 a.m. Friday, September 30, 2005, Rev. Ernest Condee officiating. Family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Thursday at Miller Funeral Home, Maryville.
