Subsequent to his retirement he designed, constructed, and operated a sand dredging operation at the French Broad River farm. Since he came to Alcoa in the early 1940s he was a loyal and dedicated member of First United Methodist Church of Alcoa, having served in several leadership positions. In the early 1940s through the 1950s he was a volunteer member of the Alcoa Fire Department. He was extremely active in the Kiwanis organization until recent years.
