Helen Katherine Loveday, 1911-2001, passed away at 10:00 AM Wednesday, May 16th, 2001, at Sevier County Health Care Center.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Myrtle Connatser Loveday; brother and sister-in-law, Lloyd and Ruth Loveday, and her sister and brother-in-law Inez and Birdwell Connatser.
Helen grew up in the Walnut Grove Community and attended school at Walnut Grove, Sevier County High School, and Connatser Business College. She began working in the office of attorney O.M. Connatser in 1932, and also began work as a court reporter. In 1936, she became Deputy Circuit Court Clerk and also worked at the Bank of Sevierville.
In 1966, “Miss Helen” was elected Circuit Court Clerk and served seven terms, 28 years, as Clerk of the Circuit, Trial Justice, and Juvenile Courts.
She dedicated her life to public service. Each person with whom she came in contact was treated with respect, honesty, and efficiency.
“Miss Helen” joined First Baptist Church in Sevierville on October 1, 1939 and has been a dedicated, active member since. She was active in the WMU and served as the Director of the 5th grade Sunday School Department for many years.
“Miss Helen” was also active in the American Legion Auxillary for 50 years, spending time selling poppies, fruitcakes and many other items to benefit the disabled veterans. She continued to serve as treasurer of the auxillary until two months ago. She was also a member of the American Red Cross, Douglas-Cherokee Economic Authority, and Optimist Club.

The family will receive friends 5-7:30 PM Saturday, May 19th with funeral service immediately following at 7:30 PM in the West Chapel of Atchley Funeral Home. . Rev. Jerry Hyder and Rev. Jack Bailey officiating. Music will be provided by Rev. Scott Andrews, David Sutton and Jeff Stice. Interment 4 PM Sunday in Walnut Grove Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be Randy, Brian and Matthew Corrado, Ernie and Joe Connatser and Bob Guinn. Arrangements by Atchley Funeral Home, Sevierville. (www.atchleyfuneralhome.com)
