Georgia Evelyn Widner Compton, 93, of Pigeon Forge went home to join her loved ones that are waiting for her in heaven. She began her glorious journey at Fort Sanders Sevier Medical Center.
On April 11, 1911, Georgia was born to the late Perry Alexander and Mary Alice Delozier Widner in the Boyds Creek Community. While living in this community she joined the Boyds Creek Baptist Church and later moved her letter to the Roaring Fork Baptist Church. On September 28, 1930 she married the love of her life, the late Buford Compton with whom she shared her life for 50 years.
Besides her husband and parents, Georgia’s son, Jackie Compton and sister, Nelle Shields are waiting for her to join them.
Leaving behind to mourn her passing but celebrating the life that she has lived are her children, Cleve Compton and wife Mary K. of Marion, VA, Jane Hancock and husband Clayton of Knoxville, Mary Lewis and husband Clell of Sevierville, Faye Parton and Earl Longmire of Knoxville; grandchildren, Lester Compton and wife Judy of Marion, VA, Bill Parton and wife Connie of Lenoir City, Larry Parton and wife Angie of Seymour, Mike Parton and wife Pam of Knoxville, Buford Ogle and wife Peggy of Ocala, FL, Kim Shelton and husband Randy of Sevierville, Dan Ogle and wife Julie of Cleveland, TN, Sandi Pendley and husband Paul of Sterling, VA, Jeff Lewis and fiancée Kelly of Hampton, GA; 19 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren. Besides the immediate family, Georgia will be missed by many other relatives and friends whose lives she has touched.
Service will be 7:00 p.m. Thursday, August 19, 2004 at Rawlings Funeral Chapel with Rev. Dallas Gibson officiating. The family will meet at Rawlings at 11:15 a.m. Friday, August 20 to go in procession to Boyds Creek Cemetery for a 12:00 Noon interment. The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Thursday, August 19 at Rawlings Funeral Home.
The grandchildren have been honored to be chosen to serve as pallbearers for their beloved grandmother.
