SOEHN, ELWOOD RALPH, SR. "WOODY" - age 61 of Gatlinburg, passed away Tuesday, February 12, 2008. Woody was born May 12, 1946 in Miami, Florida where he lived through his early teen years and then moved to Gatlinburg to live. He attended Gatlinburg Pittman High School and, after high school, he married Sammy Parton. For the past 43 years, they have lived happily in Gatlinburg with family and friends. Woody has many highlights in his personal career, including founding of Woody's Package Store in the 1970's, serving on the Gatlinburg City Commission from 1981 to 1985 (vice mayor '82-'85), a past Rotarian, and committed supporter of youth athletics. Woody was a devoted father and grandfather and built his life around the principles of honesty and integrity. Although he will be sadly missed, in return he leaves behind a reason to believe, to smile, and to laugh forever. He was preceded in death by his mother, Carmen Johanson; and father, Elwood Sachsenmaier; aunt and adopted mother and father, Leticia and Joe Soehn; aunts, Aleida, Estrella, Julia, and Gloria; uncles, Harry and Buster; father-in-law, Rex Parton, and sister-in-law, Lana Parton. "Woody" Soehn, Jr. and wife Terri, Heath Soehn and wife Dana; grandchildren, Davis and Ethan Soehn, Isaac, Emily, and Ella Blankenship, Grant and Garrett Soehn; mother-in-law, Blanche McCarter Parton; brother, Richard Soehn; niece, Laurie (Soehn) Schmezle, her husband Martin, and their children Keegan, Aidan, and Ea; first cousins, Johnny McDaniel, Tommy McDaniel and daughter Dawn McDaniel; an infinite number of friends all over the world. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Pi Beta Phi Elementary School Library, 125 Cherokee Orchard Road, Gatlinburg, TN 37738, or the charity of your choice. A memorial service will be held in the Sanctuary of First Baptist Church of Gatlinburg at 5 PM on Friday, February 15, 2008, with Rev. Larry Burcham officiating. Woody's ashes will be privately scattered by his family at the many places that shaped his happy memories.
